Scheduled vs. Adaptive Courses

On Kadenze, courses are offered as either Scheduled or Adaptive courses.

A Scheduled course follows a set calendar, with course start and end dates, prescribed due dates for assignments, and new lecture content that is released on specific dates.

Adaptive courses are more flexible in terms of scheduling, allowing students to progress through course material at their own pace. All sessions are immediately available, and coursework is available sequentially, with recommended due dates.

Scheduled Courses

  • Start/End Dates
Course start and end dates are specified in advance.
Sessions and Coursework items become available to students on the date specified by the instructor.
  • Coursework Due Date
Specified by the instructor or institution.
  • Assignment Resubmission
If resubmission is allowed, students may resubmit assignments at any point during the 24-hour period that follows their initial submission.

Adaptive Courses

  • Start/End Dates
Courses have open enrollment. Students can enroll in the course at any time within the course's open enrollment period. The enrollment period opens before a course starts, and is set with the participating institution. If a course is nearing its end date, enrollment may close for the current course, however students will be able to enroll in a future offering of the course.

All Session content is immediately available to students once they enroll in the course.

New Coursework items become available to students once they submit the previous coursework. The first coursework is immediately available upon enrolling in the course. Note that this means Free members will only be able to access the first coursework(s) and their associated resources for the duration of the course.
  • Coursework Due Date
Recommended Due Dates (enabled by default) will automatically suggest a 1-week deadline for each coursework to help students schedule their workload. It should be noted that the recommended due date is merely a suggestion, and students are free to deviate and go at their own pace, even with Recommended Due Dates enabled.

Recommended Due Dates can be disabled via the <User Preferences> page. Assignments will still be “unlocked” upon completing the previous assignment, but no due date will be recommended.
  • Assignment Resubmission
If resubmission is allowed, students may resubmit assignments at any point during the 24-hour period that follows their initial submission.
